Living in Utah in the Olympic Aftermath

February 26, 2002
Salt Lake morphed from boomtown to ghost town in 24 hours. Walking down State Street the night after the 2002 Olympic Winter Games ceremoniously concluded, an eerie stillness permeated downtown. Yet watching the Games end can ultimately remind us of all the good things we still have.

When Olympic Rodeo Dust Settles Truth Comes Out

February 26, 2002
Now that the Olympic Command Performance Rodeo is over, we should look at the facts to see whether the media's and protesters' ballyhoo had meat or just baloney. You remember the game plan of the animal-rights activists. Billboards. Meetings with Rocky Anderson and Mitt Romney.

With Year Nearly Over, Ute Women Show Some Life

February 26, 2002
After entering the Olympic break at just 9-9 overall, and a miserable 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play, the U women's hoops team was just looking for some way to plug the holes on the sinking ship heading into March's conference tourney. The Utes acquitted themselves reasonably well, going 4-2 during the stretch to jump to 13-11 overall, 6-6 MWC.

By , , and February 26, 2002
More than 120 players applied for the draft of the eight-team Women's United Soccer League, but only 32 were selected. Utah's Amy Kofoed was one of the lucky ones. Kofoed became the second player from the Utes to join the WUSA when she was selected with the first pick of the fourth round (25th overall) by the San Diego Spirit.

Football Moves Boost Offense

February 26, 2002
Just two months removed from a bowl victory over national power USC that pushed its final record to 8-4 overall, the Utah football team is now focusing its efforts on reloading for the future. On National Letter of Intent Day on Feb. 6, the Utes added 24 athletes to their team, seven from the junior college ranks and 17 from high schools concentrated primarily in the West.
