Poll: Utahns Savor Winter Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY?A survey taken at the conclusion of the 2002 Winter Games found Wasatch Front residents overwhelmingly felt that the games went well. The poll found 59 percent felt the games came off exceptionally well and 29 percent thought they were better than expected.

Cheney Security Document Found

SALT LAKE CITY?Secret Service agents shopping for Olympics souvenirs lost a document detailing security plans for Vice President Dick Cheney's appearance at the Closing Ceremony, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. The document described seating arrangements at the stadium for Cheney, his family and other dignitaries.

The Olympic Games didn't turn out as most of us had expected. The drive up Parley's Canyon took half an hour?not four. Not one terrorist showed up at any of the venues. City Weekly praised Utah Mormons for not proselytizing during the Games. Roots' employees and the people who cleaned up after the Budweiser Clydesdales stayed chipper.

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, will hold previously unscheduled talks with the man behind the peace plan?Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah?on Wednesday in Riyadh, Solana told reporters after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Americans Remains Sent from Serbia

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia?The remains of three American brothers of ethnic Albanian origin who were killed and dumped in a mass grave in Serbia will be sent to the United States, the U.S. Embassy said Tuesday. Ylli, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi were living in New York City when they decided to leave the United States to fight for Kosovo's independence against Serb forces in 1998-1999.

Weary Softball Team is Struggling Early

The U softball team is used to having a tough schedule to start the year. Coach Mona Stevens plans it that way to give her team an edge come conference play. For Utah men's basketball fans, Saturday afternoon's clash at BYU was painfully similar to the decision the Utes suffered at Lavell Edwards Stadium on the gridiron in November. Although Utah held the lead and controlled play for much of the basketball game, BYU's fierce second half rally from a 21-point deficit earned the Cougars the 63 61 win.
