Powell Hopes Talks Can Halt Violence

SHANNON, Ireland?Secretary of State Colin Powell said Tuesday he hopes his talks this week in Pakistan and India can build on a recent easing of tensions and lead to a "complete halt" to the nations' monthlong confrontation. Speaking to reporters before a refueling stop in Ireland, Powell said a conciliatory speech by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf showed that "the rush toward conflict has slowed quite a bit.

Administrative Gun Battle Is All About Power

The shoot-out at the Crazy-U corral is about to begin. On one side of the fence stand Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and his state Legislature deputies. On the other stand U president Bernie "the kid" Machen and his band of academic desperados. The battle is shaping up over the U's ban on concealed weapons on campus.

Police Report: Skateboarder Charged With Trespassing

Skateboarder caught on campus?Police checked on a report of skateboarders on the north side of the Student Services Building. They were boarding in a way that damages U property. When the officer arrived, he saw only one man boarding, so he talked to him. The man said he didn't know of the U's policy on skateboarding.

Lawmakers Deem U Gun Rule Unlawful

Lawmakers believe a 20 year-old U policy banning students and employees from carrying weapons on campus is illegal. After hearing opinions from many college and university representatives from across the state, the Administrative Rules Committee appealed all campus gun-control policies.
