Women’s Hoops Fifth in MWC

While no one was expecting the Utah women's basketball team to replicate last year's feat of going 28-4 and reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, this season's rather lackluster 7-5 start is not quite what anyone had in mind, either. True, the Utes did lose two starters and their top reserve from the best team in program history, but they also returned enough talent to garner five first-place votes and finish second to Colorado State in the MWC preseason poll.

Student Suing U Will Run for ASUU President

Steve Rinehart did not intend to run for student body president, but after he filed a lawsuit against parking services, many students asked him to. "I've received countless emails from students," he said. "It's not something I had ever planned on." However, the second-year law student suing the U announced he will run with Annie Deprey, who is also a law student.

Swimmers Spent Break at Practice

The U swimmers probably didn't sleep in as much as the average student over the Winter Break. They were busy training in Colorado Springs, Colo. At the Air Force Invitational, the U swim team got a chance to train and compete at the Olympic Training Facility.

Skiers Begin Season in Montana Today

With all of the exposure the 2002 Olympic Winter Games will bring the Utah ski team, it also brings temporary headaches. The U ski team opens its 2002 season short on practice time and may be without a top cross country skier as the Montana Invitational begins today in Bozeman, Mont.
