Anyone who has read any of my previous men's basketball columns should know that I am a fan of head coach Jim Boylen and the Runnin' Utes. However, when talking about if the team has a legitimate shot at winning the regular season Mountain West Conference Championship, I have to tell the fan in me that is screaming, "Yes, yes, yes," to be quiet and face the facts.

Finishing up an undefeated fall developmental season at No. 3 in national polls, Utah rugby has had a hard offseason filled with intensive training in preparation for the spring. The Scrummin' Utes are looking to extend their eight-game winning streak as they head into preseason matches this month.

In a successful attempt to move the nation's longest active bowl-winning streak to nine games, the Utes dug out a 37-27 win over the California Golden Bears in the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday in San Diego.

In a game that was full of ups and downs the Runnin' Utes came up just short of pulling off their second big win of the week, falling 78-73 in overtime to a strong Oklahoma team.

You could argue that the Runnin' Utes did not lose their Saturday game against Oklahoma when the clock struck 0:00 in the overtime period. Rather, they lost it down the stretch in regulation by missing free throws by the bundle.

University Health Sciences is holding a food drive through Dec. 18 to help give back to the community during the holiday season.
