Caught using a stolen permit?The permit a driver used to park his car on campus was discovered as stolen. The driver was required to pay fees for using the stolen permit, and the University of Utah Police Department referred the incident to the Student Behavior Committee.

Student’s Body Found in Library

A student died in the Marriott Library Wednesday. A custodian found the body of Michael Casey, a 28-year-old English student, in the library's first-floor men's bathroom next to the elevator early Wednesday morning. The library would not disclose the name of the custodian for comment, nor would state Medical Examiner physicians release the cause of Casey's death, as law prohibits them from divulging that information to anyone but next of kin, law enforcement officials and other physicians involved with whatever killed the individual.

Volleyball Earns Split; Now Waits for NCAA News

Losing to Hawaii has been a trend for the University of Utah volleyball team in the past few years. However, the past years had the Rainbow Wahine defeating the Utes in the NCAAs. This year, Utah was looking for revenge in the Bankers Classic. Utah did not lay down in front of the 10th-ranked Rainbows after Hawaii defeated the Utes in the first game of the match.

Prisoners Uprise In Afghanistan

MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan?Hundreds of Osama bin Laden's foreign legion were killed after staging an uprising with smuggled arms in a northern alliance prison Sunday, officials said. U.S. airstrikes helped quash the daylong insurrection. A U.S. special forces soldier inside the fortress was taped by a German television crew saying an American may have been killed in the fighing.

Violence Dampens Peace Prospects

JERUSALEM?A spike in Mideast violence Sunday dampened prospects for a U.S. mediation effort, as a Palestinian teenager died in a clash with Israeli soldiers and Israeli helicopters blasted buildings in Gaza after a mortar shell killed an Israeli soldier. The violence came a day before Assistant Secretary of State William Burns and new envoy Anthony Zinni, a retired Marine Corps general, were to begin their peace mission there.

Professors Give A Toe or Two to the U

With one kidney and three fewer toes than she had a week ago, Margin Overa, a professor of economics at the University of Utah, is searching for a pair of two-toed socks at All-a-Dollar. "It's the only place that I can afford to buy things since the incident," she said.

The University of Utah Women's Club is quite a prestigious club on campus. The problem is, not many people seem to know about it. Taylor Neville, a senior studying psychology and English, hadn't even heard about the U Women's Club until she applied for the scholarship that it sponsors annually.

Letter to the Editor

Editor: This letter is in response to Matt Canham's Nov. 16 article "Corky Humps the Y." Lest he think that only Brigham Young University fans were disgusted by his article, I also offer my severe disgust over his article. After reading the article, I can honestly say that it was the first time that I was ashamed to say that I attended the University of Utah.

Somewhere in the middle of Europe sits a young couple huddled in their parkas trying to warm up with a mixture of coffee and Irish whiskey. Their mouths are downturned as they discuss what their next big vacation will entail. They sip their mixture of coffee and alcohol as if it's the last time they will ever taste either.
