Some European birds can fly 600 miles in a day searching for food. Other animals lie in wait, ready for their prey to stumble upon them. Animals' lifestyles run the gamut. Two researchers in the University of Utah's biology department are curious as to why. How an animal breathes may be an important part of the answer.

U Student Raped

From 1998 to 2000, five rapes were reported to the University of Utah Police Department, according to its 2000 Campus Safety Brochure, a figure which Chief Ben Lemmon said is "extremely low" when compared to other campuses in the United States. The most recently reported rape at the U happened last week.

U Medical Students Complain About Distant, Unsafe Parking

After an 18-hour shift at University Hospital, waiting another hour before getting to bed was excruciating for fourth-year medical student Alison Schick. Staying at the hospital until 2 a.m. to finish her shift is not unusual for Schick. With her car parked at the E-lot near Red Butte Garden?a 15 minute walk through the dark and desolate parking lots of the medical complex?one night, she decided to try the escort service provided by hospital security.

U. Oklahoma students face immigration charges

NORMAN, Okla.?The Immigration and Naturalization Service is charging the president of University of Oklahoma's Pakistani Student Association and his two Pakistani roommates with immigration violations. The three OU students, who the INS arrested Nov. 8 on campus, are being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center in Oklahoma City.

Bowling Green State U. graduate student accused of genocide

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio?Pierre-Celestin Rwigema denied that he was involved in the killing of 800,000 Tutsis in 1994 and insisted that his life was in danger during the genocide. An arrest warrant was issued by Rwanda in April 2001. He is being charged with crimes against humanity and genocide for the death of the Tutsis.

Room-size computers shrank down to a more manageable, desk top size when electrical components were miniaturized. Nearly everything else may be headed in the same direction. An electrical, chemical, biological, mechanical or any combination of systems could be shrunk down to a scale measured in microns?100 of which make up the width of a human hair.

Letter to the Editor: the Demands of Uncharitable Guests

Editor: As a student of the University of Utah, I find the parking situation intriguing. The main problem is that I (or any other student for that matter) am too worried about my classes to take time out of my schedule to lobby for my parking stall?a parking stall that I paid $120 this year to use.
