The Chronicle’s View: Vindictive Legislatures Wasted Time on Salary Cut Bill

March 7, 2002
At the 11th hour of the 2002 Utah legislative session, state lawmakers were not working on some way to boost funding within the education budget, or trying to pass some social welfare package? They were trying desperately to slap U President Bernie Machen on the hand.

Scalpers Top List of Olympic Woes

March 7, 2002
SALT LAKE CITY?After all the worries about terrorism, protests and pickpockets, it turns out that people illegally selling Olympic tickets and memorabilia were the biggest problem for police during the Winter Games. Fifty-nine people were scheduled to appear in court Monday for selling merchandise without a business license, but only two?both of them from Salt Lake County?showed up.

Letter to the Editor: A Cause Worth Fighting For

Editor: Instead of analyzing the main facets of the hate crimes bill or its important implications, John Morley went straight for Sen. Alicia Suazo's jugular. In his March 5 article, "Real Debate Over Hate Crime Bill Is Impossible," Morley accuses Sen. Alicia Suazo of furthering her "personal agenda.
