Appeal Filed in Religious Discrimination Case

The U has 30 days to respond to the legal appeal of Christina Axson-Flynn as the court battle between the state's flagship university and the former theatre student rages on. Axson-Flynn first sued the U in 1999 after she was confronted by theatre professors who said her grades would be negatively affected if she changed the words of plays to avoid taking the Lord's name in vain or saying the "f-word" in class exercises.

U Gets Night at Medals Plaza

Amid rain, hail and wind, the U celebrated its night at the Olympic Medal Plaza Feb. 20. The night included a medal ceremony, a performance by Marc Anthony and a short fireworks display. International Olympic Committee members handed out medals for many events, including women's bobsled, women's 1,500 speed skating and women's and men's skeleton.

Germans Stay in Alumni House

While German athletes were busy dominating the medals count during the Olympics, officials and others were conducting behinds-the-scene business on the U campus. The German National Olympic Committee rented the Alumni House from Feb. 1 to Feb. 24. Sponsors of the German NOC, primarily Adidas and two German companies, paid the Alumni Association $100,000 for the Olympic rental period.
