Sheer Makes Case as Candidate for Architecture Dean

Brenda Scheer has spent most of her architectural career studying how urban neighborhoods change with time. As dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Scheer would like to apply these studies to the cities of Utah. William Haley, in Salt Lake City this week to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day observances, said, "Roots gave us a thirst for figuring out who we are, not only about ourselves but about others," said Haley, president of the Maryland-based Alex Haley Center.

Last Saturday afternoon, the U women's basketball team let one get away. On Thursday night, the Utes never let it get anywhere close to that point. Less than a week removed from a triple-overtime loss to Colorado State, Utah responded with an emphatic 67-39 victory over the Air Force Falcons.

U Skiers Honored by RMISA

A pair of U skiers were honored by the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association for their strong starts to the 2002 season. Freshman Pierre Olsson garnered Men's Alpine Skier of the Week honors after capturing first place in the slalom and second place in the giant slalom at the Montana State Invitational, and following that up with a second-place finish in the slalom at the Nevada Invitational.

Students Get Preview of 2002 Village

The Olympic Village is officially closed to the public as of today. The Union organized several last-chance tours for students and employees Thursday, distributing about 500 tickets for the tours out of the 2,000 it had. The Olympic Village is a maze of fences and color-coded banners.
