Utah’s season ends with a satisfied Brian Johnson

On September 2, 2004, a 17-year-old kid named Brian Johnson completed one of his two passes for a modest 11 yards in Utah's season-opening win over Texas A&M.

How sweet it is

By By Chris Kamrani, Asst. Sports Editor January 3, 2009

Amidst the glitz and glamour of the historic Sugar Bowl and playing a storied Alabama program, the largely written-off Utes stormed out of the gates and never looked back en route to a 31-17 win.

Quarter 3 Coverage

Glen Coffee seems to be hurt, because he hasn't been back in the game since being hurt. Ingram is a talented tailback, but he lacks the punch that Coffee has. Utah is one quarter away from pulling off a huge upset in SEC country.

Turnovers crucial to Utah?s success

Try to remember the last time you saw a Utah receiver loose the football. Rack your brain for the last Ute tailback to cough up the rock. It won't be in 2008.

Terrell Cole made a big tackle on the screen pass that puts Alabama at third-and-8 with little time left and Alabama all out of timeouts. Utah gets a personal foul call after time expired resulting in better field position for the second half. Utah gets the football to start the second. Marquis Maze was the guilty party.

Kenape Eliapo just had a huge sack. It could put kicker Leigh Tiffin out of range. He was missing from this range in warm-ups. Utah already has three sacks in the first quarter alone. They are bringing pressure on every play and hoping that Wilson just makes mistakes. It's Utah's willingness to be aggressive and leave their secondary in one-on-one situations that gave Utah the edge in the first quarter. That and Utah's near-flawless offensive execution.

Quarter 4 Coverage

Freddie Brown gets my vote for Most Outstanding Player. Utah has six minutes to hold onto this lead. Alabama will come strong and I've got to go to the field for interviews.

Scout teams mimics Alabama players

By By Tony Pizza, Sports Editor January 2, 2009

At 5-foot-8, 223 pounds, the Texas Southern transfer is doing his best to imitate what one of Alabama's best weapons, tailback Glen Coffee, does in order to prepare Utah's first-team defense.
