We can cultivate a unique community here in Utah, something distinct from the rest of the country. Sure, you'll always find the same chain stores everywhere you go in America, but we should do our best to support local businesses and make Utah Utah.

Once again, Utah came out on the wrong side of a nail-biter Sunday against Oregon State. After a full 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, extra time was needed to decide a winner in Corvallis, Ore., and it was the Beavers who netted the winning goal just seven minutes into the first overtime period.

Everyone might the need to miss a class occasionally. Students and teachers alike deal with car troubles, weather conditions, a sick kid at home or just life. The trouble lies with students who are unwilling to commit the time necessary to achieve the best learning, which occurs in the classroom. U professors and instructors should enforce stricter attendance policies.

College football is sending a mixed message to its select group of gridiron warriors. They're saying it's OK to enjoy football, play your heart out and celebrate, but you must wait until your NFL payday to exercise any display of emotion.

If I could chose one word to describe the 2008 Republican Convention, that word would be genius. Genius in the choice of Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate. Genius in the discrediting of Barack Obama. Genius in the projection of McCain as a true American hero and a patriot who is more than prepared to be the next president of the United States.

The east entrance of the library is finally slated to reopen in October. The building was originally planned to open in August, but construction was delayed when the building failed to meet code. Violations included narrow bathroom stalls, too few exit lights and doors installed backward, hindering a quick exit in case of emergency.
