Red Rocks settle for second

ATHENS, Ga.-This year ended the same way it did the last two seasons for Utah, as it finished second to Georgia at the NCAA Women's Collegiate National Championships on Friday. Utah earned a 197.125, but the home team powered its way to a fourth straight national title with a 197.

Beckham-mania lives up to exciting billing

As "Beckham-mania" rolled into Utah over the weekend, people were awaiting a high-scoring, high-energy match from Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy. The 25,500 that showed up to Rice-Eccles Stadium were not disappointed in the match that resulted in 2-2 tie between international soccer star David Beckham's Galaxy and RSL.

When Jon Hayes first stepped foot onto the U campus five years ago for a high school "science day," he wasn't sure what the gigantic, unfamiliar place would have in store for him. When Patrick Reimherr first arrived at the U as a freshman, he too said he did not feel like he had a place to belong-a spot in the U to call home.

ATHENS, Ga.--There isn't an easy night at the NCAA National Championships and Utah knows that after the preliminaries Thursday. The Utah gymnastics team rallied its way through a tight first night with a final score of 196.950 and finished second to Georgia.

Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan predicted that an SEC team was going to the win the 2008 NCAA Gymnastics Championships. Fortunately for Yoculan, her Georgia Bulldogs were there to back up her claim. In the end, Georgia used the home crowd to its advantage and took the Super Six with a 197.

ATHENS, Ga.--Just in case Georgia needed another piece of evidence for its claim to a college gymnastics dynasty, Utah head coach Greg Marsden confirmed his thoughts on the matter. "You thought, well maybe after two, well they could be after three," Marsden said facetiously.

Red Rocks finish individual finals with mixed results

ATHENS, Ga.--Utah had mixed results in the NCAA gymnastics event finals Saturday, taking home some hardware as well as new bumps and bruises. Kristina Baskett tied for second on the vault with a 9.8438 but fell on the first pass of her floor routine, crunching her left ankle.

ESPN is holding a fan-fueled quest to determine which American city should hold the moniker Titletown, U.S.A. Someone should nominate Athens, Ga. Athens is home to the Georgia Gym Dogs, three-time defending women's collegiate gymnastics national champions.

ATHENS, Ga.--The field contending for the individual all-around title narrowed Thursday afternoon. Six teams-LSU, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Oregon State-competed in the first session of the NCAA gymnastics championship preliminaries. With the afternoon session complete, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney of LSU is no longer in the running for the individual all-around title.
