Gilbert: Super Nova will last the longest in the Big Dance

By By Jon Gilbert and By Jon Gilbert March 25, 2008
Before the NCAA men's basketball tournament started, I planned how I was going to spend the $10,000 grand prize that ESPN.com was going to pay me for my winning bracket. Less than a week later, I'm back to budgeting paycheck to paycheck. All of my brackets have been busted, if not totally annihilated.

Asian American students confront stereotypes

By By Clayton Norlen and By Clayton Norlen March 25, 2008
Despite the fact that Lisa Chan was born in the United States, people sometimes compliment her ability to fluently speak English. Chan said she and other Asian American students are viewed by some as perpetual foreigners, adding that this is just one of many stereotypes imposed on Asians.

Kamrani: Davidson will be wearing the glass slipper longest

By By Chris Kamrani and By Chris Kamrani March 25, 2008
Lo and behold, the chosen one emerged this past weekend. No, this is no allusion to deity or a fantasy-filled, action-packed martial arts motion picture. The chosen one stands at a respectable 6-foot-3 and is listed at 185 lbs. (not a chance in hell). The kid who has been named Dick Vitale's tournament MVP so far is none other than Stephen Curry.

Zebrafish study could aid human hearing

By By Carlos Mayorga and By Carlos Mayorga March 25, 2008
Hearing rarely returns once a human loses the ability to hear. However, when lower vertebrates such as birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians lose the ability to hear, they are able to regenerate hearing cells, called hair cells, and regain their hearing. The cells are called hair cells because they are tiny, hair-like projections found in the inner ear which enable humans and animals to hear.

A woman who helped an escaped convict who allegedly shot a corrections officer at the U's Orthopaedic Clinic in Research Park will stay three more months in jail before she is released, according to a new court sentence released March 24. Trisha Tower, 26, pled guilty to obstruction of justice, a state felony, in Third District Court in January.

Niedrich: First impressions last forever

By By Anastasia Niedrich and By Anastasia Niedrich March 25, 2008
People make statements quite frequently that start with, "You can tell everything about a person by their..." Well, I believe you can tell almost everything about people by how they treat other people -- especially people who serve them. The weekend before St.

ASUU ponders bill to help fund KUTE

By By Edgar Zuniga Jr. and By Edgar Zuniga Jr. March 25, 2008
After more than a year without funding, KUTE, the U's student-run radio station, might get the money it needs to resume its online broadcast stream. The ASUU Special Projects Subcommittee passed a joint bill earlier this month that would give KUTE $4,500 to pay the Recording Industry Association of America the copyright fees it owes.

Men’s Hoops: Utes runnin’ no more

By and March 25, 2008
The Runnin' Utes might not have accomplished all that they had hoped to do in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational, but the game stood as a positive microcosm of sorts to Utah's entire season. In the end, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes ousted the Utes from the tournament by a final score of 69-60, but the Utes took small victories from 2007-2008 body of work that came to an end last night.

Pappas: Students hear same ol’ story every year

By By Nicholas Pappas and By Nicholas Pappas March 25, 2008
"It's best for students not to have a large tuition increase," Student Body President Spencer Pearson said. "But it's reasonable to expect at least the rate of inflation -- which is about 4 percent -- and the U is only 2 (percent) above that." I would have liked to hear more used-car sales pitches from Pearson, but he was too busy wagging his tail and rolling over for the U administrators.
