Shattuck: Live healthier, live longer

By By Ryan Shattuck and By Ryan Shattuck March 24, 2008
I've accepted the fact that April 19 will probably be the day I die. "Why is Ryan dying at such a young age?" a few readers might ask. "Will it be a slow and painful death as he deserves?" most readers will hope. I believe I will soon die, for April 19 is the day of the Salt Lake City Half Marathon.

By By Rochelle McConkie and By Rochelle McConkie March 24, 2008
The State Board of Regents approved a 6 percent tuition increase for the U last week at its meeting in St. George. With this increase, the average resident student taking a 15-hour course load will pay $256.20 more for tuition every semester. Regents spokeswoman Amanda Covington said that at 5.

Pappas: The reality of reality TV

By By Nicholas Pappas and By Nicholas Pappas March 24, 2008
Louis William Conradt Jr. was many things. He was a successful assistant district attorney in Texas. He was a brother and friend. He also solicited children for sex. Some would call him a monster. Others would say he needed help. Regardless, he is dead. In November 2006, the press and the police raided his house to seek justice and, more importantly, to humiliate the man.

Servatius: Where’s the magic in Obama?

By By David Servatius and By David Servatius March 24, 2008
I feel like the guy who's staring at the ultrasound and seeing nothing but fuzzy blobs while everyone else is squealing about little toes and noses. I want to feel the magic of Barack Obama. I do. It looks so exhilarating. I want an American hero as much as anyone else, and I'll be the first to admit that the frenzy surrounding the Illinois senator has a whiff of something historic about it.

Baseball: The wrong ‘two out of three’

By By Cody Brunner and By Cody Brunner March 24, 2008
The U baseball team must have misunderstood the old saying "two out of three ain't bad" in its conference opening weekend against San Diego State. Instead of winning two and losing one, the Utes dropped two and were only able to come away with one victory at Franklin Covey Field against the Aztecs.

Men’s Hoops: Utah and Tulsa, evenly matched

By and March 24, 2008
When Utah head coach Jim Boylen goes to exchange pregame pleasantries with Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik tonight, he'll likely have more to offer than a handshake. The meeting will probably be more along the lines of, "Thanks for the opportunity," with the chance for a laugh and a few anecdotes about what it's like to work for legendary Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo.

Brunner: Loss or not, Utah got railroaded with No. 8 seed

By By Cody Brunner and By Cody Brunner March 24, 2008
Some would say they got the raw end of the deal. Still others would say they got shafted. I would say the U women's basketball team got dragged up and down a metal stairwell, slapped in the face multiple times and publicly stoned. An eight seed. A first-round matchup with Purdue on the Boilermakers' home court.

Gymnastics: Red Rocks rebound at Michigan

By By Jon Gilbert and By Jon Gilbert March 24, 2008
Order has been restored in the Utah gymnastics team's universe. The Red Rocks bounced back from their loss last week to Florida by conquering Michigan 197.425-196.325 in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday. After posting two sub-197.00 scores, No. 3 Utah (11-1) was looking to get back on track -- but that isn't so easy when visiting No.

Ute Briefs (3/24)

By and March 24, 2008
Lacrosse The No. 25 Utah lacrosse team spent its spring break in Southern California, but it wasn't there for fun and sun. The Utes were there to play three games in four days. Utah started the trip against Claremont College (5-3) on Thursday in Claremont.

By By Michael McFall and By Michael McFall March 24, 2008
In one of the biggest landslides in recent student government election history, the Focus Party won the election for student body president with nearly 64 percent of the vote.
