Horton’ Brings Seuss Into the 21st Century

By By Rachel Adams and By Rachel Adams March 17, 2008
Pixar has spoiled us. Hey, we all loved Disney, but as the new gold standard of children's movies, Pixar has raised the bar. Nowadays adults go to the movies with their children fully expecting to enjoy the film. Apparently, children's fare is kosher now. Well, this ain't Pixar, kids, it's 20th Century Fox animation.

Utes crash on the offensive boards

Jim Boylen didn't begin his post-game statement to the press early with a joke following Utah's loss to UNLV early Saturday morning in the Mountain West Conference tournament in Las Vegas. The mood was less jovial than it was the night before when the Utah head coach started out his post-game statement with a crack at the media for not sitting on the front row-apparently, he urges his players to sit on the front row in class.

Home sweet home

LAS VEGAS - Another year, another BYU-UNLV tournament final, and another Rebel championship. No. 2 UNLV ousted the top-seeded Cougars 76-61 to come away with the MWC tournament championship and lock up the conference's automatic NCAA tournament bid. Wink Adams caught fire during a crucial stretch run in the second half, hitting three consecutive 3-pointers and a driving layup to give the home team a sizeable lead and spur the Rebels on to victory.

LAS VEGAS - San Diego State's Quenese Davis rimmed out a 3-point attempt at the buzzer and New Mexico escaped the Thomas & Mack Center with the MWC Women's Championship, 62-59. The Aztecs trailed by four with less 15 seconds to go before Davis drilled a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one.

Men’s Hoops: Same story, different result for Runnin’ Utes (3/14)

By By Natalie Dicou and By Natalie Dicou March 15, 2008
The U men's basketball team has been known to peter out at the end of games this season-especially ones against New Mexico. Utah fell in overtime at the Pit in the first go-round, and followed that up with a frustrating one-point loss at the Huntsman Center in the rematch.

Men’s Hoops: Midnight stand (3/14)

LAS VEGAS -- When in doubt, give it to the tallest guy on the floor. Utah head coach Jim Boylen followed that mentality down the stretch in No. 6 seed Utah's overtime upset win over the No. 3 seed New Mexico Lobos. The Utes gave the ball to center Luke Nevill on virtually every possession, and the Utes left the Thomas & Mack Center with an 82-80 overtime win early Friday morning.

MWC needs to eliminate UNLV’s tournament advantage

By and March 15, 2008
It's about time for the MWC to stop giving UNLV more help than it needs. When it comes to the Mountain West Conference tournament, Rebel head coach Lon Kruger and his basketball program are too good to continue getting the unfair advantage of needing to win just three-straight home games to make it to the NCAA tournament every year.

Men’s Hoops: Nevill outdoes Giddens to keep Utah’s season alive (3/14)

By By Cody Brunner and By Cody Brunner March 15, 2008
LAS VEGAS - Like a delicious salsa dance, Utah's Luke Nevill and New Mexico's J.R. Giddens traded moves back and forth with each other on Thursday night. Nevill would make a move, Giddens would rebut. Giddens would slash, Nevill would counter. And so it went, throughout regulation and into the final seconds of overtime.

Celluloid life

By and March 14, 2008
Stop-motion gave way to claymation, which gave way to suspense, which turned into melodrama before it all climaxed in a hard-boiled film noir. That was the scene at the Union Theatre Saturday night, as three student filmmakers at the U publicly unveiled a series of short films.
