When U women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott ponders what it's like to have junior shooting guard Morgan Warburton and sophomore small forward Kalee Whipple manning her team's wings, she begins to glow. The serious, let's-get-down-to-business expression that Elliott usually wears on her face fades away at the mere mention of the two standout players.

He's also been the guy with the ball in his hand during the last seconds of four Runnin' Ute losses that have come down to the wire. Unfortunately, none of those games went Utah's way, but that hasn't caused Boylen's confidence to waver in his juco transfer's ability or heart.

At the start of the season, Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan mentioned how important the fourth, fifth and sixth gymnasts in each team's lineup are going to be in 2008. Friday night, Utah head coach Greg Marsden confirmed it. "The people early in the lineup have to set it up," Marsden said.

The Mtn. strikes a deal with DirecTV

Last Friday, The Mtn. television network reached an agreement with DirecTV to distribute Mountain West Conference programming through the leading satellite company in the country. "The announcement today is a huge step in getting television exposure for our teams," U Athletics Director Chris Hill said on Friday.

Flu hits U students

A rise in influenza cases nationwide is hitting the U as officials at Student Health Service are reporting the number of students with flu-like symptoms has dramatically increased since the beginning of the month. From the end of November until the beginning of February, the clinic treated one student with flu-like symptoms, said Liz Miller, nurse manager at Student Health Service.

Although clouds blocked their view, students and community members gathered atop the Physics Building hoping to catch a glimpse of last week's lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth aligns with the sun and the moon, placing the moon in the Earth's shadow.

Gymnastics: Utah stays hot with win over UCLA

The U gymnastics team made a push for the top spot in the national rankings Sunday by posting its third straight score above 197.00. In the process, Utah notched another quality win by defeating No. 9 UCLA in Los Angeles. The No. 2 Utes started out slowly but powered through with the help of Ashley Postell to improve to 9-0 on the season.

Brunner: Mtn. deal took way too long

There were 9,297 people on hand last year when the down-on-their-luck Runnin' Utes turned the MWC upside-down with a stunning defeat of No. 13 Air Force. Thanks to two prideful companies, maybe a handful more people watched the magic on the tube. Thankfully, the lack of exposure is no more.
