By By Spencer Pearson and By Spencer Pearson February 26, 2008
University of Utah students, I am writing this column to request your assistance on a very important issue to the U and to the state. As many of you know, over the past several years, the U has been involved in disputes with the state as to whether or not to allow guns on campus.

Letter: A letter from a student!

Editor: After reading Janice Kopaunik's column titled "Don't even think about having sex" (Feb. 22), I had to wonder out loud: "Is The Chronicle's editor really that starved for letters?" I was disappointed to see that my theory does not hold any water, as my eyes stumbled down to the section titled "Letter to the editor.

NBA: Who made the best trade?

Thursday brought one of the most active trading seasons in NBA history. This wasn't just a few 12th-man-for-cash swaps or a draft pick going elsewhere for "future considerations," either. He's also been the guy with the ball in his hand during the last seconds of four Runnin' Ute losses that have come down to the wire. Unfortunately, none of those games went Utah's way, but that hasn't caused Boylen's confidence to waver in his juco transfer's ability or heart.

Straight: Not exactly the end of an era

By By Chase Straight and By Chase Straight February 26, 2008
Fidel Castro is stepping down from his position as the president of Cuba. Can you believe it? Too bad nothing is going to change. The man who turned back the U.S. at the Bay of Pigs invasion, maintained a stable economy despite U.S. sanctions and survived numerous assassination attempts by the CIA (638 by some counts) is finally saying, "In your face, America!" by peacefully resigning.

Shae Sveniker stood on the steps outside the House of Representatives chamber, his voice resounding throughout the Capitol rotunda, echoing from the dome walls. He clenched his fist as he called the senator by name, speaking of slavery and oppression and directing his words "to you, Chris.

The Utah House of Representatives passed a bill to conceal the names, personal addresses and phone numbers of U animal researchers.
