By By Ana Breton November 2, 2007
Because seats for this Sunday's fundraising rally featuring former President Bill Clinton have been sold out, Hillary Clinton's campaign has created 200 standing-room tickets priced at $30 each. All of the $50 tickets were sold for the rally taking place in the Union Ballroom, which has a capacity of about 1,200 people.

Thai students hold annual Sports Day

By By Edgar Zuniga Jr. November 2, 2007
More than 8,000 miles away from home, Thai students gathered to share a love of sports and culture last weekend. As part of their annual Sports Day, about 40 Thai students from the U and Utah State University gathered at HPER East building on Saturday where they played badminton, volleyball and chairball, a traditional Thai sport.

Kids putting down balls for boards

By By Jon Gilbert November 2, 2007
There was a time when young boys and girls played neighborhood football games and organized giant H-O-R-S-E competitions in the driveway. Little Johnny played soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter and tee-ball in the spring. Organized sports dominated most children's extracurricular lives.

NWC ticket prices lowered

By By Carlos Mayorga November 2, 2007
Kingsbury Hall is hoping more students will purchase tickets to "N*gger, Wetb*ck, Ch*nk: The Race Show," after the U's student government refused to sponsor and help sell tickets for the event. The show, which starts tonight, features three UCLA graduates who tour college campuses nationwide performing the show.

Utes looking to plant the No. 2 seed

By By Natalie Dicou November 2, 2007
There's a lot on the line for the U women's soccer team this weekend when it will wrap up its regular season on the road against Wyoming. A victory over the Cowgirls would give the Utes (11-3-4) the second seed and a first-round bye in the Mountain West Conference tournament.

Rockets spoil Jazz’s home opener

By By Jason Peterson November 2, 2007
Maybe it was the 40,000 balloons that dropped from the arena's ceiling and were subsequently popped with the resonance of a megaphone held to a machine gun. Or maybe it was the relentless pounding of the T-Mac Attack. Either way, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer and the rest of the gang likely woke up this morning with a headache following Thursday night's 106-95 loss to the Houston Rockets.

U visits universities in New Orleans to study emergency response

By By Jennifer Winters November 2, 2007
A team of 12 staff and faculty members from the U visited Louisiana recently to evaluate how local universities responded to and recovered from Hurricane Katrina. The trip was funded by a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant that the U won last year to launch a comprehensive pre-disaster mitigation plan which will serve as a model for universities facing all kinds of hazards -- both natural and man-made.

Revamped Runnin’ Utes on exhibition

November 2, 2007
The game had absolutely no bearing on the 2007-2008 standings. Their opponent had essentially no shot at pulling off an upset. The win was basically cinched up by halftime. For Jim Boylen and his Runnin' Utes, none of that mattered. Effort-wise, Utah played like it was the tipoff to the Mountain West Conference schedule -- instead of an exhibition game -- and hammered the Montana Tech Orediggers 83-40 at the Huntsman Center on Thursday night.

Airport security disappointing

By By Pamela Talledo November 1, 2007
Airports these days are tedious things. Every time I travel, I arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure. It is a hassle -- getting the Ziploc bag ready with make-up, lotions and chapstick, taking the laptop out of the bag pack, taking my shoes off, etc.

Red Herring: What’s the f***ing story, Wishbone?

By By Orion Archibald November 1, 2007
According to a press release issued from the PBS website last week, "Wishbone," the wildly successful PBS children's literacy program, is making a triumphant return to the network after a six-year hiatus, with a new cast and a new focus designed to shore up ratings for PBS in the face of season-on-season declines since the early 2000s.
