Cougars win on Crimson Court for the first time in eight years

October 15, 2007
Ute libero Connie Dangerfield had never experienced what happened on Saturday. Fellow seniors Whitney Webb and Kate Robison hadn't either. Neither had BYU outside hitter Chelsea Goodman. Even U head coach Beth Launiere hadn't experienced what happened over the weeke nd on Crimson Court during this century.

Utes put O’Connell, Aztecs’ offense to bed in win

Utah's defensive performance in a 23-7 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday was embodied brilliantly in one play by defensive end Nai Fotu in the third quarter. Fotu set up to defend a running play on the left side, and when he went unblocked by the Aztec offense, the true freshman delivered a cracking blow to the ball carrier, Atiyyah Henderson.

Despite a slow start and a less-than-perfect finish, the Utes finally found their first conference win on Saturday afternoon at Rice-Eccles Stadium, beating San Diego State 23-7. The Utah offense couldn't find the end zone the entire first half, despite moving the ball 249 yards and finding themselves in the red zone twice.

Task force will evaluate Dixie affiliation

October 15, 2007
U leaders say they need to know more specifics about the proposal to make Dixie State College a satellite campus of the U before they will give the plan the thumbs up or down. The U Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution last Monday to create a task force that will study options for an enhanced partnership with Dixie State in southern Utah.

Bush: Big Business Bodyguard

During Fall Break, I spent a considerable amount of time standing in line clutching my laptop under one arm and two well-worn shoes under the other. With my plane ticket in hand, I plodded toward the security checkpoints in holey, mismatched socks. I don't know what a shoe bomb is, the magnitude of its destructive powers or what shoe works best for detonation.

Voices: Dancing for a cause

Last school year, the Associated Students of the University of Utah took on the considerable task of introducing a new event to an already event-laden campus. Despite initial skepticism, Rock the U raised more than $93,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation in its inaugural year, a result unheard of in first years of similar events.

Will it be up or down tonight at Louisville?

By By Cody Brunner October 9, 2007
Before the start of the season, Utah's matchup with Louisville was regarded as its marquee game this year. Although that might have changed a little bit in the public's eye because of Utah's disappointing 2-3 start and Louisville's fall from the Top-25, the players still view the game to be their biggest.

Capecchi wins Nobel Prize

October 9, 2007
U professor Mario Capecchi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine Monday for his research in gene targeting. Capecchi's development of "knockout mice" technology -- or the ability to alter specific genes in mice with embryonic stem cells -- has allowed researchers to model hundreds of diseases, like cancer.

Utes outscore Louisville 44-35

By By Cody Brunner October 8, 2007
Utah continued its M.O. of beating teams it probably shouldn't tonight as it shocked Louisville 44-35. The Utes' offense put the team up 21-0 early and running back Darrell Mack rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns as Utah outscored the Cardinals. Following a shaky start against Utah State a week ago, the Utes' Brian Johnson bounced back and threw for 312 yards and a touchdown.
