Mario Capecchi is a distinguished professor who has accomplished something that will forever be a highlight in the history of the U. Capecchi participated in decades of research that involved genetically altering mice to adjust their DNA structures -- which enabled researchers to learn how various diseases work and opens the possibility for cures.

At my grandmother's funeral, my two brothers tried to convince my grandfather, who was infamous for being unaffectionate, to say "I love you." They finally got him to say it, but my father was pretty sure he ruptured something doing so.

Utes start swimming season off right Friday's Reddish Relays and the season-opening meet Saturday gave first-year head coach Greg Winslow something to smile about. The Ute men took home first place in the 300 back relay and the Ute women placed second in seven out of the ten events of the Reddish Relays held Friday night.

Warning: Suspicious man in Residence Halls

Housing and Residential Education officials are warning residents to watch out for a man who has bothered female students living in the Residence Halls by asking them for personal information. Housing officials sent an e-mail to residents after receiving complaints about a man in his mid-40s who has approached several female students, who are mostly Asian and Asian-American.

Task force will evaluate Dixie affiliation

U leaders say they need to know more specifics about the proposal to make Dixie State College a satellite campus of the U before they will give the plan the thumbs up or down. The U Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution last Monday to create a task force that will study options for an enhanced partnership with Dixie State in southern Utah.

Alcohol related arrests up

If you are driving near campus, you might want to pay careful attention to the cars around you. New data shows that the number of people arrested by U Police for drunk driving nearly doubled last year. According to a new report released by the U Police Department, the number of alcohol-related arrests, mostly DUIs, almost doubled in 2006 from the year before.
