Time for ASUU to cut the crap

By By Christopher Kamrani February 19, 2009

I'm sorry, but it's a revolving door of dramatics that people stopped caring about a long, long time ago. I don't know whether or not to care where my $25 worth of ASUU student fees go to anymore. We've seen and heard enough.

Parenting more significant than celebs? behavior

By By John Stafford February 19, 2009

In reality, the fact that Phelps was stupid enough to pick up a bong during a house party in which about 90 percent of the people probably had access to some sort of camera phone, should be more of a deterrent to marijuana use than any D.A.R.E campaign could ever be. If not the rest of the country, Utah should get over it.

Increased speed of death row needed

By By Steven Warrick and By Steven Warrick February 18, 2009

Members of the U community should urge their legislators to vote for SJR14. Likewise, if the resolution makes it onto the ballot, they should vote for the proposed amendment themselves.

Women’s basketball needs respect

By and February 18, 2009

I've been disappointed in U students and fans for seven years. Since this is my last semester here, I wanted to voice my frustrations as well as thank the most unsung athletic program here. No, not the football team. Not men's basketball8212;they have regained status in the hearts and minds of fans. You never make room in your hearts, minds and wallets for Utah women's basketball.

HB 208 bad for economy

By and February 18, 2009

House Bill 208 will create such an obstacle by requiring undocumented students to sign an additional affidavit each semester promising that they haven't worked in the United States during the calendar year.

HB 208 creates barriers

By and February 18, 2009

My office at the U awards private scholarships available to all students, including those of undocumented status who fall under HB 144. I need to express my objections toward SB 81 and HB 208.

Sex toys lessen the sanctity and value of sexuality

By and February 17, 2009

Whatever happened to the sanctity of our sexuality? It has been misused and abused since Adam and Eve. It was meant for us to show true love to our spouse inside the bond of marriage and as a way to make babies and perpetuate the human race.

ASUU candidates should support Sustainable Campus Initiative

By and February 17, 2009

My initial response to this article was neither anger nor resentment toward our candidates. Rather, it was disappointing to see each of them succumb to media pressures and fall into stereotypical political roles. With that in mind, there are three statements I would like to direct to each of the campaigns running for ASUU office.

The Legislature needs a drink

By By John Hannon and By John Hannon February 17, 2009

Perhaps after the pub crawl (and the awkward morning-after apology calls), common sense might prevail during debates about some of the more trivial liquor laws in Utah. And there's no doubt our lawmakers would have more fun than they've had since they entered the Legislature. Just remember to pour Sen. Michael Waddoups' drinks out of sight. You know how he hates seeing bartenders mix drinks.

Utah an example of national change

By By Kiyan Sharifian and By Kiyan Sharifian February 17, 2009

Ideological barriers and agendas stymie our country's ability to reach goals that share wide consensus. Burning political capital on dead-end issues does not help America move forward. In considering the wide array of viewpoints in this country, seeking and acting upon the issues that are universal creates the opportunity to encourage compromise on the sharper issues.
