Intervention not always best option

By By Steve Warrick November 5, 2008

In most, but not all, cases, it is probably the best course of action to let the parties themselves work out a solution that reflects the real balance of power rather than for us to impose an artificial status quo.

Legislature should help struggling students

By By Anne Roper November 4, 2008

The circumstances are combining against students, turning into Murphy's Law. The Legislature needs to take notice of struggling students who can't make ends meet while paying for an education.

Miller movie choices hypocritical

By By Zach Edmunds November 4, 2008

Miller is allowed to show what he wants in his theaters, but it seems hypocritical to project the idea that he is standing for family values by not allowing films such as "Zack and Miri" and "Brokeback Mountain" to play while allowing movies such as "Saw V" and "Hostel."

Conservative paper shares its name with communists’

November 4, 2008

Does anyone happen to recall the newspaper of the Russian Communist Party? It was Pravda, or in English, The Truth. What a tasty little bit of irony!

Those against abortion are missing the point

November 4, 2008

Abortion is about the right of women to interrupt an unwanted pregnancy that might have resulted from a terrible experience, such as rape, the horrible news that the fetus' health would result in a challenging existence, or in the case when the health of the mother could be at risk.

Proposition 8 bigoted, not worth fighting for

By By Logan Campbell November 4, 2008

Gay marriage bans only suppress people and defend no one. They protect xenophobes from accepting that same-sex couples are equal to them before the law. I cannot imagine a viable and unbigoted argument to the contrary.

Don’t be fooled by Obama’s rhetoric

By By Heather Berg November 3, 2008

At the end of the day, you'll think for yourselves. You'll make a decision and put a little "x" on the screen. It's crazy to think that tomorrow less than an inch difference up or down could mean drastically different fates for our future. You know where I stand, please stand with me.

Republican rule has been disastrous for Utah, U.S.

By By Oakley Gordon November 3, 2008

Utah Republican leaders have had years to implement these reforms, but have refused to bring accountability and transparency to our state government. If we want an ethical legislature here in Utah, we need to elect more Democrats. This is why America needs Barack Obama in the White House and more Democrats in Congress and the Legislature.

Make Darfur genocide known

By By Samuel Totten November 3, 2008

While many of us in the United States closely watch the trials and tribulations that our troops and residents of Iraq and Afghanistan face, it seems as if the Darfur crisis, entering its seventh year, is not much more than a footnote in history.

Change is coming

By By Tim Chambless November 3, 2008

Utah is becoming a two-party state. Competition is good. Change is coming.
