The Utah baseball team (4-4) will venture beyond California for its third series of the season.

Newly acquired outfielder, Rick Cornu, was named as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Utah left Bakersfield with three wins and improved its record to 4-4 on the season, with all four games ending in a scoring-fest for the Utes, as they scored a combined 39 runs in the three days of play.

A week after getting its first taste of dirt, the U baseball team will look to improve against Cal State Bakersfield this weekend.

The Utes kick-started their 12-game road trip with a four-game series against Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif. During the series, there were two games postponed because of darkness, an 11-inning grinder and a game in which the Utes allowed LMU to score 13 runs.

Although most of Salt Lake City is still covered in snow, the Ute baseball season is underway.
