Before Wednesday night's showdown with the 42-9 Lakers, Jazz point guard Deron Williams summed up his team's potential to win the game by saying, "Everything will have to go right."

For the first time in four years, the Runnin' Utes own sole possession of first place in the Mountain West Conference, thanks in large part to senior Shaun Green, who dropped 21 points as the Utes took a one-game lead in the MWC standings Wednesday night by defeating San Diego State 67-55. The game also extended Utah's streak to five.

After a big win over the San Diego State Aztecs, one Utah name stood out. Shaun Green nailed a 3-pointer with 1:10 left in the game that sealed the deal for the Utes, giving them a 10-point lead over the Aztecs. But that wasn't all he did.

Only two years into his tenure, head coach Jim Boylen has taught a ragtag bunch how to protect a lead. He's also taught them how to keep their hearts beating when the team is down.

The Utes were able to get away with that against Wyoming, but if they want to be successful Wednesday night against the 16-5 San Diego State Aztecs, they'll need to be on their A game.

I drove to Ogden to watch the Utes take on the Weber State Wildcats. With 2:16 remaining in the first half, Brown took a feed from guard Johnnie Bryant on the right wing. Had a camera been in the building, the ensuing play would have made the nightly news8212;and "SportsCenter."

The Aztecs took the first contest of the year on their home floor, and Utah is looking to return the favor with a home win of its own. With both teams riding four-game winning streaks and a 7-2 Mountain West Conference record into the Huntsman Center, the Utes understand how big a win this would be.

With 36.5 seconds left in the first half, Brown took off from the middle of the Mountain West Conference sign at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum and instantly assured a five-star YouTube rating and a thunderous slam that would be seen worldwide.

Actions speak louder than words. Every player who has used illegal performance enhancers has gained from it monetarily. If baseball players, or athletes in general, want that sorry to mean something, then show us how sorry you are, don't just tell us.

Junior forward Kalee Whipple received the Mountain West Player of the Week Honors after her two stellar performances against TCU and Wyoming this past week. Whipple was a huge reason the Utes were successful in their two come-from-behind wins.
