Fall ball is about halfway over for the Utah softball team, and according to head coach Amy Hogue, there's still a lot up in the air for the group.

The women's soccer team is off to its best offensive start since the 1996 season. The Utes have been firing on all cylinders, scoring nine goals in their first two games, beating Utah Valley University 6-0 in their home opener and Cal State Fullerton 3-1 on the road.

The coaching staff for Utah's softball team just got deeper, as the Utes added longtime volunteer Cody Thomson as a full-time assistant coach. Thomson has been working with the Utes since 2004 and has been working with all four members of the pitching staff since they arrived at the U.

After a disappointing end to a losing season riddled with injuries, Utah's softball team is looking to rebuild and start fresh for the 2010 season. Picked to finish No. 4 in the conference, the team ended as No. 5 for 2009, rallying late in the season to move up in the standings from No. 6.

The team said a formal goodbye to five seniors after their final game May 9 against New Mexico. The team is now beginning to prepare for the changes that will inevitably follow losing the influence and talent the seniors provided.
