Royal Bliss
Since 1997, Royal Bliss has been selling out (venues) both at-home in Salt Lake City and abroad since before the word ‘millenium’ became a part of the common vernacular.
With a gruff-looking lead singer and a sound that’s a mix of funk, rock and jazz, Royal Bliss has drawn acclaim from artists like Kid Rock, Mark McGrath and some dude who looks to have ties to Bon Jovi.
Sound right up your alley? Cool, don’t miss it; the Bliss plays Redfest at noon.
The Contingency Plan
Always willing to shovel out the snow at Kilby Court during the winter, The Contingency Plan is one of Salt Lake City’s hardest working bands-and they play music, too.
“We just want to write good songs and put everything into our show,” said Mike Anderson, front man for the band.
Often hastily lumped into the pop-punk/emo category, The Contingency Plan actually sounds more like a poppier Cursive, aspiring to give something more to its listeners than just good background music.
“When people listen to our music, I want the melody to be catchy, but I want the lyrics to force the listener to think,” Anderson said.
Don’t get left out of the plan-Contingency plays Redfest free of charge today at 1 p.m.
Blind Iris
Ever play that videogame “Tony Hawk Pro Skater?” So did Blind Iris, if for no reason other than to hear the band’s own single on the soundtrack.
Blind Iris’ vocalist recalls cock-rock in all its glory, sounding like the lovechild of Scott “I swear I’m clean now, guys. Guys?” Weiland and Axl “Chinese Democracy isn’t just an oxymoron” Rose.
Go Blind at Redfest, 2 p.m.
