Rice-Eccles staff incompetent

Editor:

There have been few times since getting married that I have had the desire to kiss someone besides my wife, but after reading Anne Roper’s column (“U employees need a lesson in hospitality,” Oct. 3) I would have definitely laid one on her.

As a member of the U marching band, I’ve been to my fair share of games. Rice-Eccles Stadium is the most inept stadium that I have had the misfortune to deal with.

At Thursday’s game against Oregon State, I, along with some other band members, was running a little late due to class conflicts. We were sent from one entry gate to the next because the security personnel didn’t know where to send us. The band entrance had been locked and abandoned, and far be it for someone to let us in another entrance.

Being open-minded though, I tried to see it from the security personnel’s perspective. We were almost a dozen college students carrying instruments in cases, holding music for the half-time performances in our arms, wearing band apparel and being beckoned by other band members who were in full uniform on the other side of the gate. So, obviously we are not band members, we are hooligans trying to get in for free!
