U Hospital CEO in critical condition after biking accident

By Michael McFall, News Editor

The U Hospitals and Clinics’ CEO is in critical condition after a bicycle accident.

David Entwistle, 40, suffered serious head injuries after falling off his bike. He is listed in critical condition at the U Hospital as of Tuesday night, said U Health Care spokesman Christopher Nelson.

Entwistle was competing in a triathlon in Tooele when the accident occurred Saturday morning, according to a press release put out Tuesday. Biking was the roughly 24 mile middle stretch of the triathlon, which was located at Stansbury Park Lake.

Lorris Betz, senior vice president for health sciences, sent an e-mail Tuesday to all U Health Care employees concerning Entwistle’s condition. Betz wrote that since the accident he has met Entwistle and his family at U Hospital, where Entwistle is receiving excellent care from his own employees.

“The injuries are not considered life threatening and David is expected to make a full recovery,” Betz said.

Entwistle has been acting CEO since February 2007.
