Redfest welcomes hip-hop groups

By Joseph Simmons

ASUU’s annual Redfest festival will offer a free concert to students Friday with performances from Slightly Stoopid, Dilated Peoples and First Class.

Slightly Stoopid and Dilated Peoples come from California and though they both feature hip-hop elements, they present two distinctly different sounds. Dilated Peoples is best known for their status in the underground rap scene, but gained national prominence for their collaboration with Kanye West in 2004 on the song “This Way.” Slightly Stoopid also features elements of rap, describing their music as “a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk” on their website.

First Class released their album Get it Done: Vol. 1 in 2006, and will be coming to Utah from Texas.

Redfest is organized and produced by students and begins at 6 p.m. at the Union Free Speech Area.
