Late Monday night, the father of Utes’ tight end Jake Murphy tweeted that his son will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a broken wrist.
“Shout out to my son Jake. Played the 2nd half vs UCLA in pain w broken wrist. Surgery tomorrow.” tweeted Dale Murphy, a Major League Baseball great.
Per Utah’s team policy, the injury was not brought up at the squad’s weekly press conference on Monday afternoon. It is unclear how Murphy sustained the injury. The junior tight end had been bothered before the game against the Bruins with a minor knee injury, but that malady didn’t seem to affect him Thursday night. He finished the game with two receptions for 27 yards.
It is unknown how long Murphy will be sidelined. Co-starter Westlee Tonga missed last Thursday’s game with an injury and it’s also unclear if he’ll be unable to play this Saturday against No. 5 Stanford.
