5 Tips and Tricks for SLC Bar Life

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]You know you’ve been around the block a few times when the bouncer who checks your ID starts recognizing you. But if you’re new to Salt Lake’s nightlife, here are a few tricks of the trade to get you around…

5. Tour

Take advantage of the walking distance in between bars and explore all that Salt Lake has to offer. Or hop on one of the bike taxis! Usually it’s a $5 flat rate, but they could potentially be talked down (singing Disney songs all the way there was once accepted as a form of payment). There is dancing at Maxwell’s, karaoke at Cheers To You and Bourbon, beer and brats at Beer Bar, and so much more.

4. Tipping

Whether you leave your tab open or closed, always tip your bartenders. They WILL call you out (or remember you as the lousy tipper for the next time you go out, and make you wait 30 minutes for a beer). Usually the standard is $0.50-$1 per drink, give or take, so be polite and make a good impression if you want to frequent those bars.

3. Tolerance

SLC bars take pride in its bouncers, and they will not hesitate to kick you out if you are being unsightly. So watch your stumbles and your altercations, because when they are at capacity, they would rather bring in new customers that have not hit their limit.

If you go to Cheers, make sure you get one of their $3 house “mind-erasers” with flavors like watermelon, green apple, grape, and even root beer. But don’t get more than one if you want to remember your night, because the drink lives up to its name.

2. Transportation

Let’s face it, getting together with your friends and making your way downtown can be a hassle. You don’t want to have to deal with leaving your car overnight or flipping for who has to be DD, let alone finding a parking spot anywhere close to where you’re trying to go. But with the classic Trax down and Lyft back you won’t have to worry about a thing. With your U-Card, you can hop on Trax at the stadium for free as late as 11:44 on Saturdays. It spits you out right by the Main Street strip of bars (Maxwell’s, Bodega, Whiskey Street, Cheers To You). From there it’s a quick two-block jaunt to Bourbon and Beer Bar/Bar X!

1. Troop

Getting a solid group to go out together can be half the fun. But no matter who you end up with, you can always count on running into a fun and different crowd every time you end up at the bars.

No matter how many weekends you have under your belt, it’s easy to get sucked into a routine. When there are so many more bars to explore, get out there and take advantage of all that downtown SLC has to offer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
