Tom Farden and Megan Marsden didn’t waste any time finding a new Utah gymnastics assistant. They didn’t have to stray too far from the family tree, either.
A day after Utah introduced Farden and Marsden as the co-head coaches on Wednesday, the team announced Meredith Paulicivic had been hired as Utah’s new assistant coach, filling the vacant spot left by Farden when he was promoted. Paulicivic spent last season serving as the assistant at Arizona.
While Paulicivic’s name might not be familiar to Ute fans, the coach herself should be.
The former Meredith King was a member of Utah’s 1992 and 1994 NCAA Championship winning teams and was a three-time All-American on vault from 1991-94.
She was also the first Ute walk-on to become an All-American, but she didn’t have to call and ask to be part of the team this time around.
“I finally got recruited by the University of Utah,” Paulicivic said in a statement. “Not as an athlete, but as a coach. I was a diehard Utah gymnastics fan as a little girl growing up in California, and competing at Utah was always my dream. After I graduated from the U, it became my dream to return as a coach. I am thrilled to work alongside Megan and Tom and to coach student-athletes of this caliber.”
After Tuesday’s press conference Farden said the new assistant would primarily assist on floor and with choreography, and Paulicivic has plenty of experience doing just that. She served as the head choreographer from 1997-2006 for SCEGA gymnastics before being promoted to head coach of the club. While at SCEGA, she coached six U.S. National Team members, as well as multiple elite-level gymnasts.
“Meredith is a talented technical coach and choreographer,” Farden said in a statement. “She’ll also be a big part of our recruiting effort. From her many years coaching elite-level gymnasts, Meredith will be a real asset in attracting the top talent to Utah.”
