U’s Asia Campus Sees Spike in Enrollment

The U’s Asia Campus in South Korea, which opened about a year ago, has seen a rise in enrollment this semester with 48 new students, bringing the total to 125.

Cheri Daily, director for the Office for Global Engagement, said the enrollment increase is due to strategic recruitment and successful first-year experiences for students and faculty at the institution.

Jean Oh, director of the Asia Campus, said partners in Salt Lake City, including legislators and faculty, also “contributed significantly” to help students “enroll, study and move forward toward completion.”

“[The Asia Campus is] part of an overall global initiative by U President David Pershing to create a broader global footprint for the U,” she said.

The relatively small campus offers three undergraduate majors — communication, psychology and social work — and one graduate major in public health. As the Asia Campus’s student population expands, the university also hopes the campus will grow both in size and programs.
