Last night, the Utah women’s swim team and the men’s and women’s diving team headed to Federal Way, Wash. to compete in their first night at the Pac-12 Championships.
Up first was diving, where the women competed in the one-meter event. Junior Amanda Casillas started the meet off on a high note, scoring a 277.35 in prelims, landing her a spot in finals. There, she placed seventh, earning a score of 265.25.
In swimming, the women competed in only two events for the night, the 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle relays.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Utah managed to out-touch UCLA in a close race, placing fourth with a 1:38.92 and shattering the school record. The team consisted of sophomore Megan Kawaguchi, freshman Genevieve Robertson, sophomore Jenna Marsh and freshman Gillian St. John.
In the last event of the night, the team of sophomore Dorien Butter, freshman Jordan Anderson, St. John and senior Maryssa McArthur placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay, hitting a 7:16.25, out-touching UCLA in another close race.
On the men’s diving side, Junior Josiah Purss also competed last night, placing fourth in the three-meter event, scoring a 357.85.
On Thursday, Feb. 25, Session 3 will begin with the 500-yard freestyle prelims at 11 a.m. PT.
