Utes preparing to weather The 12th Man

September 2, 2003
The U football team (1-0) will have to deal with 82,600 screaming fans along with a very talented Texas A&M football team this Saturday evening, and the team knows that getting through the environment at Kyle Field will be an extremely difficult task.

NFC South: Tampa defense leads as usual

By By Tye Smith September 2, 2003
Recently considered as one of the worst divisions in football, the NFC South emerged last season as an unlikely powerhouse from top to bottom. The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, typically this division's worst teams, both had great turnarounds last season-the Falcons made the playoffs and the Panthers finished 7-9.

AFC North: Steelers to edge out Ravens

By By Mathew Ouellette and By Mathew Ouellette September 2, 2003
Playing in the AFC's North Division is a lot like bar-hopping in Denver after a Colorado State/Colorado game: You'll do fine as long as you don't get shot in the ass. Of course I'm referring to Steelers linebacker Joey Porter's misfortune last weekend, but it really does apply to this division.

Hospital attracts Hispanics with clinic

September 2, 2003
The popularity of University Hospital's Hispanic clinic at the U Hospitals and Clinics' Redwood Health Center is forcing the center to recruit more staff after only a month of operation. Designed as an all-native Spanish-speaking clinic to meet the needs of Hispanics in the community, the clinic is bringing in patients from all over the valley, said both Julie Day, medical director for the Redwood Center and Enrique Baires, clinic physician.

By By Jasyn Jones September 2, 2003
One thing has become apparent over the last two years-the statements of the opponents of the USA Patriot Act are long on hysteria and hyperbole, and short on details or evidence. The opponents cite no sections of the law to support their claims. They refuse to identify plausible instances of abuse or potential abuse.

Concerns over the Patriot Act: Exaggerations or well-founded warnings? (Gurr)

By By Kathleen Gurr September 2, 2003
The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution guards against unreasonable searches and seizures-the very searches the USA Patriot Act allows. These so called "sneak-and-peek" searches mean that government officials can rummage through your home, business, even your bank records without your knowledge.

Letter to the Editor: No guns on campus? We’ll see

By and September 2, 2003
Editor: Rather than saying "From my cold dead hands," I have adopted a new saying about the latest ruling concerning the guns on campus issue. That saying is, "I've got all day!" As probably the most avid pro gun student on campus, I am keeping the unconstitutional ruling on the U's gun policy in perspective.

I want my sex back, you non-gender specific jerk

By and September 2, 2003
It's all about sex, or is it gender? The fickle public lexicon seems to favor the word gender where sex once prevailed. I am now a tribute and/or insult to my gender, not my sex. It began with the same good intentions that pave the road to hell. We needed a word that avoided confusion between sex (men or women) and sex (men, women and esteemed guests engaging in the sexual act).

Museum virtually links itself with others

The Utah Museum of Natural History's 30,000-piece mammal collection is now part of an electronic network that allows simultaneous access to disparate mammal collections from 16 other institutions across North America. And anyone with a computer can watch the project grow.
