International Week comes to U

Students have the opportunity to learn about the world's cultures as the student government hosts International Week through Friday. The Associated Students of the University of Utah Presenter's Office, the Non-Traditional Student Board, Diversity Board and several other student groups have organized and funded a week of activities intended to increase student awareness of diversity on campus.

Pierre Lassonde and his late wife Claudette, both U graduates, often joked that a union between the College of Business and the College of Engineering would be a formidable force in today's high tech industry. U lands a win in gun debate

Nothing changed on campus, but it was still a victory for the U. In a decision which came as a surprise to administrators and state leaders alike, 3rd District Judge Robert Hilder ruled in favor of the U's no-gun policy, despite the opinion of Utah State Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and many members of the Utah State Legislature that such a policy was against Utah law.

Two opinions, one general concern

Last Friday, Aug. 29, The Chronicle ran two seemingly different articles: one about award-winning geneticist Mario Capecchi's work on mice, and one about the Students' Organization for Animal Rights and their fight to keep the U ethical and humane. The article on Mario Capecchi's research focused mainly on recent discoveries that may lead to a reduced incidence of skeletal birth defects in humans.

AFC EAST: Upstart Bills could take division in ’03

It's almost not fair, playing in the AFC East these days. At most, the best and toughest division in football can only send three teams to the postseason. With the injury to the Jets' Chad Pennington, which will keep him out for most of the season, things may get sorted out a bit easier.

TEMPE, Ariz.-Things didn't go quite according to plan this weekend for the U volleyball team. The Utes (1-2) dropped their first two matches in the Sun Devil Classic, falling to Arizona State and San Diego before finally salvaging the weekend set with a sweep over the Ohio Bobcats Saturday evening.

As the Utah women's soccer team walked off the field Sunday, a familiar chorus echoed from the PA, "Sorry Ms. Jackson...I am for real." It may have been planned or it may have been a coincidence, but it was certainly as much a statement as the team's weekend performances.
