LDS Students Visit Historic Grave Sites

"Today we're going to talk about real live people. They're dead, but they're still real and they're still alive," said John Peterson, U LDS Institute of Religion instructor at the start of a tour through the Salt Lake Cemetery. Peterson guided about 20 students to various grave sites of famous early leaders of the LDS Church and territorial Utah Tuesday afternoon.

April 1, 2003-A conference room, 36 private patient rooms, 20 separate computer stations and a trauma room twice as large as its predecessor are just some of the improvements U Hospital staffers can boast about. When the new emergency room opened its doors on April 1, it marked a vast increase in the quality and efficiency of care patients to the new facility will now be able to receive.

Jan. 15, 2002-After receiving national attention from CNN, ABC, The New York Times and NBC, the U's lawsuit to keep weapons off campus picked up steam this year. In mid-January, state lawmakers deemed the U's 20-year-old gun policy prohibiting students and employees from carrying concealed weapons on campus illegal.

Everclear Helps Rock the Vote

Oct. 11, 2002-Oct. 18, 2002-Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader and rock band Everclear headlined a wildly successful inaugural Rock The Vote campaign at the U. Nearly 20,000 students on campuses across the country registered to vote through the Rock The Vote campaign, and the 2,000 students from the U that registered were second most in the country.

In a recent conversation, a friend of mine brought up an interesting question-are people today really that messed up, or are we all just weak? Doesn't it seem like everyone you know has a disorder of some kind? Maybe this has been more my experience since I live in Utah, Prozac capital of the world, and, even worse, grew up in Park City-where therapists and disorders are as much in fashion as studded-cowboy hats.
