Grant Ups Number Of Native Teachers

A grant recently given to the U by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Indian Education will bring 12 American Indian students next summer to the U to become teachers. The grant, totaling $545,883, was written by Bryan Brayboy, an assistant professor in the department of education, culture & society.

Utes Lose to ASU in Fifth-Place Contest

The U men's basketball team mounted a furious comeback in the fifth place game of the Maui Classic Nov. 27 against Arizona State, rallying from a nine-point deficit with 4:00 left to go up 71-69 after Nick Jacobson's third straight three. However, a putback by ASU's Jason Braxton forced overtime, in which the Sun Devils outscored the Utes 12-8 for the 83-79 win.

A group of U students are accomplishing something never before done in Utah: They are building the state's first competitive solar car. James Allison, director of the U's Solar Vehicle Design Team, started the project with fellow engineering students in September of 2001.

A hideously broken arm is what I'm most grateful for this holiday, because it will provide a more tangible point of worry, concern and pity for my nosy aunts tomorrow than does my unmarried status. Obviously, I'm being facetious, but if history is a guide, the more people that read "Whitticisms," the more I complain about my love life.
