Letter to the Editor: Chronicle Gun Coverage Biased

Editor: I have to take issue with "Don't Let Guard Down on Guns," an editorial in The Chronicle's Openings issue. A debate, by definition, is to discuss a question or issue considering opposed arguments. I have been a consistent reader of this newspaper ever since the guns on campus issue has been brought up.

B.J. Probert wants to graduate as soon as possible. As an entering freshman planning to study sports medicine, Probert's goals are to get a good education and get out. Stepanyan, a first-year graduate student, arrived from Armenia less than a year ago to study finance at the U. Having won the Mountain West Conference postseason tournament in 2001, the Utah volleyball team should expect great things for the upcoming season, even moreso now that it has been ranked first in the MWC preseason poll. For the first time in team history, the Utes will enter a season as the school to beat in the Mountain West.

The U's Health Sciences Center has named James Bardsley associate vice president for finance and planning. He assumed his position July 22. Bardsley was chief administrator and director of planning for the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Brunswick and Piscataway.

Some statements which I'll quote from that article made me wonder if it really was the opinion of the editorial board's majority, or if the opinion of higher administrative leaders led/pressured the editors to a "politically correct" position on the issue.
