CARACAS, Venezuela?One of the world's largest oil refineries virtually shut down, and industries and businesses closed Tuesday during a general strike that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez tried to keep off radio and TV. Large industry and commerce closed after the 1 million-member Venezuelan Workers Confederation and Fedecamaras, Venezuela's largest business federation, called a 24-hour nationwide strike supporting an ongoing work slowdown at the government oil monopoly Petroleos de Venezuela, or PDVSA.

A teaching assistant for Professor Karen Johnson's African-American Experience class, Niang has landed himself in a bit of hot water recently. In between student presentations, Niang asked how many students belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then he said that their church is guilty of institutional racism and insinuated that the students are guilty of racism by association.

U Hospital Sees Increases During the Olympics, the U Hospital's patient admissions and revenues fell 17 percent below February's projections. The hospital credits this to the public's actual or perceived trouble in getting to the hospital, so a lot of patients stayed away.
