During the 30-year life of the U's Women's Resource Center, women have made impressive advances in equality and influence. While women can feel good about their increased influence in new areas, some must occasionally feel exhausted by one result of the progress: enlarged expectations.

Congratulations to the women reading this. Chances are, you've already reached some level of enlightenment, or you wouldn't be affiliated with one of the region's most supportive communities for women?the University of Utah. Women's Week provides a great opportunity for us to say thanks for all the U does for women.

Women's Week has come round again, as it does every year. I've been asked to give you my impressions of where we've been, where we are, and where we're going with regard to diversity?a story that reads like the proverbial "one step forward, two steps back.

Boundaries and Borders: Coloring Outside the Lines

The theme of this year's Women's Week is "Beyond Borders." When I was asked to write a guest editorial for this special section of The Daily Utah Chronicle, I decided I wanted it to be a kind of meditation on this theme. I don't want to use my position as chair of the planning committee to advance an argument about what I think the theme means; rather, I want to suggest some possibilities that might fuel the imaginations of all of us who take part in this celebration or who wonder what Women's Week is all about.

Greek Week to Include Zoo Trip and Blood Drive

March is a busy month for greek women. This year's Greek Week coincides with Women's Week, both of which conclude on Friday, March 29. Among the events slated for this week are a blood drive and a trip to Hogle Zoo to visit with children. The blood drive is hosted by ARUP Laboratories, a U-based research lab run by the department of pathology.

Assembly Holds Hearing for K-UTE

Although the Student Senate voted to table a bill proposing to cut funding for student radio, the General Assembly plans to make an informed decision Tuesday. The Assembly Rules Committee of the Associated Students of the University of Utah held a special hearing Monday to discuss funding of K-UTE, the U student radio station.

Candidates for student body office focused on student needs and services during their second debate. The Latter-day Saint Student Association hosted the second debate among the candidates for president and vice president of the Associated Students of the University of Utah Monday.

Despite Budget Cuts, Deans Avoid Layoffs

Students doing research at the Marriott Library may have a hard time getting their hands on publications and periodicals next year. In an attempt to cut costs, Marriott Library Director Sarah Michalak decided to cancel many paper subscriptions and replace some of them with electronic versions of the same publications.
