Big-Ass Stadium Bleachers to Spring Up Across Campus

By By B to the Izzay March 24, 2002
Due to an overwhelmingly positive response to the big ass stadium bleachers placed adjacent to Rice-Eccles Stadium on South Campus Drive for the Olympics, U administrators announced Monday that not only could we count on said bleachers to remain intact for generations to come, but that God and parking funds permitting, we should expect many more big ass stadium bleachers to spring up across campus in the months and years ahead.

Seniors Excel in Their Final Huntsman Center Meet

March 24, 2002
Deidra Graham couldn't have summed up the Utah gymnastics team's Senior Night romp over BYU on Saturday night any better. "I can't think of a better way to go out," she said. "It felt good to go out and get a meet under our belts before Regionals." The U didn't just break, but shattered the school record score of 197.

U Swimmers Perform Well at Nationals

March 24, 2002
Four swimmers from the U swimming team represented the Utes at the U.S. National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., this past weekend. As a team, Utah finished 61st with seven total points after Evan Castro and Tessa Greegor competed in the 100 meter breaststroke "B" finals to score the points for the U.

The Chronicle’s View: Revoked Charter Harsh But Wise

March 24, 2002
Over the weekend, Kappa Sigma International concurred with U administrators and yanked Kappa Sigma's charter. The decision is harsh, but warranted. In the past, punishments levied against wayward greek chapters have not been so harsh. Yet problems along the lines of Kappa Sigma's January party that resulted in 52 alcohol citations, have persisted within the greek community. And although house residents come and go in a matter of several years, the frustration of neighbors and the U administration has had much longer to build.

Official Reflect On U’s Support in Washington

March 22, 2002
Laura Snow was in the House gallery and watched as Utah's congressmen, both Democrat and Republican, spoke on behalf of the U Tuesday. Special Assistant to President Snow sat next to U lobbyist Nancy Lyon when the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill providing up to $15 million to construct a new Utah Museum of Natural History at the U.

Letter to the Editor: Utah’s Welcome Mats Are Gone

Editor: All over town are marquees and banners loudly proclaiming "Salt Lake City Welcomes the World." How friendly, how appreciative this city was, and, oh, how they celebrated the diversity of those out-of-town neighbors during the month long "We-Love-Non-Utahns Just-As-Much-Or-Even-More Than-Utahns" fest.

Big Apple Meets Beehive: Walking the Line Of Mutual Misconceptions

By , , and March 21, 2002
When I told all of my New York friends I was transferring to the U, I don't think they understood. At the time of my announcement, I was a proud citizen of the great state of New York. And for any of you who have spent any time in the Empire State, and have conversed with its people, they'll be the first to tell you no state is greater.

Machen Talks 9.3 Tuition Hike With Students

By , , and March 21, 2002
Nearly 20 students showed up to the mandatory meeting to discuss next year's tuition increase with U administrators Wednesday. There were more students than expected and more than last year, U President Bernie Machen said. Since legislators passed the Truth in Tuition Bill last year, the presidents of each state institution are required by law to meet with students and explain what additional monies created by tuition increases will fund.
