Weather Could Delay Softball’s Home Opener

By , , and March 8, 2002
The wet weather, although desperately needed for the state's water needs, may cause some havoc for the U softball team. No. 2 defending NCAA champion Arizona is scheduled to come to Salt Lake City this weekend. It would be a great opportunity for the U softball team to get a high-ranked team onto Ute Field.

Snow Cancels Softball Series With No. 2 Arizona

March 8, 2002
U softball coach Mona Stevens has canceled this weekend's games with No. 2 Arizona because of "way too much snow." Stevens said she called Arizona softball coach Mike Caldrea and told him not to make the trip to Salt Lake City because the field could not be made playable by Saturday.

Miss Aguilera Can’t Compete With Hoops

March 8, 2002
I was supremely confident that if there was ever a time that Christina Aguilera might alter her long-standing policy of appearing in public half naked (not that there's anything wrong with that), it would be in the sub-Arctic outdoor environment of the Olympic Closing Ceremony.

Trying to Understand the ‘Rulers of the Earth’

As a chemical engineer, I've grown accustomed to the conversational fallout that can follow from one simple, seemingly innocent question: "So what's your major?" An honest response brings the inevitable gapes, smirks and quizzical queries. My personal favorite: "Wow, are you some kind of genius?" No, not some sort of genius (although Mensa may say otherwise).

Letter to the Editor: A Cause Worth Fighting For

Editor: Instead of analyzing the main facets of the hate crimes bill or its important implications, John Morley went straight for Sen. Alicia Suazo's jugular. In his March 5 article, "Real Debate Over Hate Crime Bill Is Impossible," Morley accuses Sen. Alicia Suazo of furthering her "personal agenda.

Letter to the Editor: A Dangerous Legislative Cycle

Editor: I find the recent events of the Legislature and its 3 percent budget cut to be ludicrous. Tuition will increase, pushing college out of reach for some and causing others to work even more than they do. If college is too expensive for students, they will be forced to join the workforce prematurely, lacking skills and float from job to job instead of having a career.
