Engineering a Way for U Students to Communicate

December 5, 2001
The Daily Utah Chronicle is a great little newspaper?just ask anyone who works here. But seriously, the Chrony published one news article in particular that caught my attention last week, and I haven't been able to shake the idea of it since. Apparently, the mechanical engineering department is attempting to implement a program that integrates communication skills into the hard science curriculum.

Do Masochists Deserve the Pain?

December 5, 2001
Ever envisioned a 40 something, white bread, midwestern male hooked up with a leather-clad dominatrix who keeps a closet full of studded whips and handcuffs just for kicks and giggles? OK, I guess it is just me. It's not a constant vision, though; I only get that mental image when I'm thinking about Chicago Bulls coach Tim Floyd, mind you.

Educators, researchers, industries and the state have joined forces under the banner of the Utah Microtechnology Consortium. Still charting a course for itself?the consortium wants to beef up local facilities for small-scale technology. Utah Population Database

December 5, 2001
When Lynn Jorde used to present genetic disease data at conferences, other scientists would scoff, "Oh, that's just the Utah population." Believing that inbreeding is more common among the Latter-day Saints population, many scientists often qualified research findings coming from Utah.
