Editor: The U's policies toward law abiding students who possess concealed firearm permits is illegal. That is a fact. I have the Utah State Attorney General informal opinion on that subject. From a legal standpoint, the U is putting itself in a very difficult position.

Powell Says Israel Should Retaliate

BUCHAREST, Romania?Secretary of State Colin Powell voiced qualified support on Tuesday for Israeli retaliation for terror attacks and said Yasser Arafat must do more to control Palestinian terrorist groups. But he also cautioned against a further escalation of the violence, saying every attack and counter-attack makes peace harder to achieve.

Israeli Bombs Put Pressure on Arafat

RAMALLAH, West Bank?Israel used bombs and missiles Tuesday to pressure Yasser Arafat to move against Palestinian militants, striking just yards from the Palestinian leader's West Bank offices and in the Gaza Strip. Two Palestinians were killed and about 150 were injured in the attacks.

Cook Argues Over Court Judgement

SALT LAKE CITY?Merrill Cook doesn't take losing well. An attorney for Cook argued Monday before the Utah Supreme Court that a judgment which could cost the former congressman nearly $450,000 should be overturned. In October, the former two term Republican representative announced he would try to reclaim his old 2nd Congressional District seat next year.
