Dyreson spoke Thursday in Orson Spencer Hall about the nationalistic push of the United States and the role of the media during the first four Winter Games (from 1924 to 1936) in the sixth lecture of the Tanner Humanities Center's series on the Olympics.

U. Penn students’ feelings mixed on bombing during holy month

PHILADELPHIA?With the arrival of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, University of Pennsylvania students have mixed reactions to U.S. attacks on Afghanistan in the weeks to come. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has indicated that air strikes in Afghanistan will continue throughout the holy month, which begins Saturday evening in the United States, and runs for 29 or 30 days depending on the location of the observers.

Attempted burglary?A woman living in West Village heard a noise at her door. When she came to investigate, she saw a man trying to enter. Once he saw her, he left. The suspect is a white male adult, about six feet and 175 pounds with brown hair. He wore blue jeans, a grey jacket and a backpack when attempting to enter the West Village apartment. U Neonatologist Jung Receives National Award Dr. August Jung will receive the award for Contribution to Maternal/Child Health at the National/International Level next month from the National Perinatal Association. Jung spearheaded the effort to open the newborn intensive care unit at the U, the first in the intermountain area, in 1968.
