Alt. Spring Break Event Tonight in Union Ballroom

Spring Break often connotes college students laying on beaches or four-wheeling in Moab. But for some students at the U, Spring Break means service. Through the Alternative Spring Break program, students?such as junior Jonathan Ching?travel to various locations and provide services ranging from feeding the homeless to volunteering at an AIDS clinic.

Former U Anatomy Chairman Dies

Former Anatomy Chair Dies Marcus Jacobson, U anatomy department chairman from 1977 to 1987, died of cancer on Nov. 12 at his home in Torrey, Utah. Jacobson was a renowned researcher on developmental neurobiology and authored a textbook on the subject. He also donated his collection of Asian art and rare books to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

Martinez Given Administrative Position

Teaching part time this semester was not in her plans, but when U officials asked Theresa Martinez to take an administrative position, she couldn't refuse. "I did not want to be taken out of the classroom, but I couldn't turn down this opportunity," Martinez said.

SLOC Names U Representatives Mayors of Athletes’ Village

The U will continue to have a hand in the Olympic Village that used to house more than 2,000 students. Representatives of the U and higher education will help welcome athletes to their temporary homes during Games-time. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee will house the 3,500 athletes and officials in the U's Heritage Commons.

Olympic Cauldron Unveiled at Stadium

With 31 days until the Opening Ceremony, SLOC unveiled the Olympic Cauldron at a press conference Tuesday. The cauldron will house the Olympic Flame during the Games and serve as an Olympic legacy to the U forever. Immediately south of the Rice-Eccles Stadium, the cauldron rises 130 feet into the air.

Multi-Tasking Mania Creates Credible Chaos

The George Washington University Counseling Center is currently offering a series of "academic success" workshops, the names of which provide a good summation of a college student's life and life challenges. The workshops are called "Get Organized," "Learn in Less Time," "Prevent Procrastination," "Master Your Stress" and "Save Your Semester.
