Red Rocks vault to nationals

The U gymnastics team can let its breath out. The Red Rocks secured their spot at nationals by winning the North Central Regional Championship on Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. Utah's score of 196.950 was more than enough to defeat the field and nab one of the two available tickets to nationals in Athens, Ga.

Internship takes students to Hollywood

Students interested in careers in the entertainment industry can get a leg up through the Ladder Program. The program offers 13-week internships in Los Angeles and is available to U juniors and seniors as well as graduate students. Heidi Heller Banks, executive director of the Ladder Program, said the program is ideal for anyone interested in a career in entertainment.

5K raises money for diabetes center

More than 200 registered participants and volunteers came to support the Utah Diabetes Center's 5th Annual 5K Fun Run and Walk on Saturday morning. The race raised money for the UDC's Treasure Chest Program. The program provides financial assistance for diabetes patients who can't pay for insurance, letting them receive life-saving treatments at the Utah Diabetes Center.

Baseball: Utes get swept in San Diego

With the weather sunny and around 75-degrees, San Diego is an ideal destination for many people this time of year. For the U baseball team last weekend, though, it may as well have been the seventh circle of hell. The Utes lost three games in three days to MWC-leading San Diego State to drop their overall record to 13-17.

Best Buddies end year with talent show

Matthew Wilkinson knows it will be hard to leave Justin Olson, whom he has volunteered with through the Best Buddies program since Fall Semester. Best Buddies pairs U students with intellectually disabled people in the community. The students and their partners are encouraged to form a friendship.

American Indian grants returned

Community members, faculty and administration gathered outside the refurbished American Indian Resource Center on Friday to rededicate the center and show support for native students, but some students say the U's efforts have been lackluster. The rededication follows a decision made by the U to send back two grants from the U.

U neurologists to present at conference

Researchers from the U will present five published studies from the department of neurology and teach courses at the American Academy of Neurology in Chicago this week. The academy is the world's largest organization of neurologists, and it hosts an annual conference that is the largest international gathering of neurologists, bringing in more than 13,000 researchers from around the world.
