With the weather sunny and around 75-degrees, San Diego is an ideal destination for many people this time of year. For the U baseball team last weekend, though, it may as well have been the seventh circle of hell. The Utes lost three games in three days to MWC-leading San Diego State to drop their overall record to 13-17.

Urban Meyer holdovers would have been disappointed, but college football purists and Ron McBride would have been pleased with the offensive display put on by the U football team on Saturday. The Utes ditched the passing game for the majority of their latest scrimmage, showing off an impressive multi-pronged running attack instead.

Defunct fountain torn out

The fountain between the Union and the Student Services Building that hasn't worked for 22 years is finally being removed. A smooth concrete fill-in will replace the defunct fountain, which was donated by the Tanner Foundation in 1986. After three years, the fountain's pipes cracked, and it hasn't worked since.

Red Rocks vault to nationals

The U gymnastics team can let its breath out. The Red Rocks secured their spot at nationals by winning the North Central Regional Championship on Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. Utah's score of 196.950 was more than enough to defeat the field and nab one of the two available tickets to nationals in Athens, Ga.

U neurologists to present at conference

Researchers from the U will present five published studies from the department of neurology and teach courses at the American Academy of Neurology in Chicago this week. The academy is the world's largest organization of neurologists, and it hosts an annual conference that is the largest international gathering of neurologists, bringing in more than 13,000 researchers from around the world.
